MDGear 550 Solid Insulation Metal-Clad Switchgear
MDGear 550 is mid-mounted withdrawal switchgear with the minimum volume and the maximum insulation performance. It adopts the APG solid insulation and silicon rubber sealing technology.
Complete products series: MDGear550 series of switchgear can provide a complete product series which has greatly enriched the modularized solution and has improved the switch design service efficiency.
Adopting the latest structural modular design philosophy, the switchgear is divided into three modules: powerhouse module, busbar compartment module and cable compartment module. It can also be composed of various module combination solution. Each solution can make any combination by independent cable compartment module change or powerhouse and busbar compartment module change, which ensures the consistency of MDGear550 switchgear service and the maintenance procedure.

MDGear550 can support the rated current from 630 to 2000A and it is designed to accommodate VMD-12 Vacuum Circuit Breaker, with the height and depth of switchgear and the busbar rated current in consistency. With 450, 550, 650, 750 in width, the dimension of MDGear550 is less than other standard switchgear dimension, making it a very compact and versatile product.
MDGear550 can be positioned against the wall. This in turn allows all service and maintenance operations to be carried out directly from the front. Accessing the cable area is particularly convenient by simply removing the base of the circuit-breaker of the circuit-breaker compartment. The maintenance personnel can easily access to the busbar and cable section to carry out the maintenance, which makes it easy to maintain the internal electrical apparatus.
The cable is connected with the main switch's lower contacts through the cable conjoined insulator or cable connector in the cable compartment. In general, copper cable conjoined insulator: If the width of the switchgear is 550mm, the cable shall be connected to the copper bar, with each phase connecting three cables; If the width of the switchgear is 650mm or 750mm, and the depth is 1350mm, the cable shall be connected to the copper bar, with each phase connecting to six cables.
Ring core current transformer is the standard configuration of MDGear550 series of 450-550mm switchgear, with the current under 1250A. If the width of the switchgear is 550mm or 650mm, block type current transformer is optional.
MDGear550 switchgear has undergone all the tests required by the international standards (IEC) and GB.

Special considerations
For the high temperature in many areas of China, the fast and wide temperature fluctuation makes the switchgear operation in danger, prone to be condensation. For this reason, the switchgear shall be equipped with the heating apparatus as soon as possible after the installation. The heater shall be settled by temperature and humidity controller when the switchgear is in standby or discontinuous operation condition.
Degrees of Protection
The degrees of protection of the switchgear conform to IEC 60529 Standards and GB4208 Standards.

Functional Compartments
Each switchgear unit consists of three power compartments: power compartment, busbars, cable and low voltage compartment;
The gas exhaust duct is positioned above the switchgear and runs along its whole length. Each power compartment is fitted with a flap on its top surface. The pressure generated by the fault makes it open, allowing the gas to pass into the duct.
Evacuation from the room of the hot gases and incandescent particles produced by the internal arc must normally be carried out.
The compartment is segregated from each other by metallic partitions.
Modularized Function
The switchgear adopts the modularized structure, which consists of three cabinet modules: power compartment, busbar and cable module.
Each module can realize on-site combination change function.
All the compartments are accessible from the front and maintenance operations can correctly be carried out with the switchgear installed up against a wall.
